Baseball games are family events with fans, players and managers of all races and backgrounds. Full details are not in yet. This may be a prank or may be a display of opinion, but fans at the September 13th Oakland Athletics vs. Boston Red Sox game unrolled a banner saying “Racism is as American as Baseball.” Red Sox reporter, Evan Drellich, quickly took to social media to show the display of hatred and call for action by the security in the park. Third base umpire Joe West, Boston police, Fenway park Security and ESPN administration all worked together to remove the people holding the sign from the stadium. Lessons to be learned? Absolutely! The unrolling of the banner reminds us that racism cannot, has not, and will not be simply swept under the rug. So what will you do to build a better tomorrow?
